Peer Mentors

What is a peer mentor?

Peer mentors are older pupils who have been trained in offering emotional support to their peers.

There may be times when you want to speak to someone closer to your age about a problem you may be facing.

You may feel that an older pupil will understand your problem better than an adult.

Maybe you just feel more comfortable talking to another pupil.

What training do they have?

Peer mentors have followed a training programme designed to help them support their peers in a wide variety of situations.

These include:

Falling out with friends

Feeling left out

Problems at home

Worries about schoolwork

Coping with difficult feelings

What will a peer mentor do?

Above all else, a peer mentor will listen.

They will help to sort out your problem with you, rather than for you.

They may need to talk to an adult if they feel you need more help.

How will I know who the peer mentors are?

Peer mentors wear a small, green, round badge on their uniform that says 'peer mentor'.

Sometimes they advertise themselves through posters and wall displays.  These always have their photos on them.

How can I speak to a peer mentor?

You can go up to a peer mentor and ask to speak to them any time you are both free - breaktimes and lunchtimes are good.

Peer mentors can also be contacted by email.  See Rob for the address.

Who are our peer mentors?

We are currently on the lookout for some new peer mentors.  Contact the School Council if you think this is a role for you.
