We were thrilled to unload our three new disability bikes last week.
Thanks to the support of the PTA, we have been making sure our current stock of bikes are fit for purpose and meet the needs of our current pupils.
Stage 1 and 2 are now complete; we have sorted through existing stock and sold on any bikes no longer appropriate for our needs. We have replaced these with bikes that will be accessible for children with more complex disabilities.
We are now able to move onto stages 3 of the project which will involve repairing any broken bikes from our existing stock. Ipswich Eagles have kindly offered to help us with this.
Once we have our bike stock up-and-running, we will be celebrating in style with an inauguration of our new fleet…our departments are in the process of planning the finer details of this special event.
Our moving and handling instructor will be on the case, assessing which bikes are right for which children and providing staff training where necessary. We will be teaming up with Ipswich Eagles, who will be providing us with the use of their cycle track at Whitton Sports Centre for groups that would like to go further afield as well as in-school support. We are also looking at extending the routes around our school grounds by making some simple adjustments to our pathways.
